Generator rental / Power outages and shutoffs

Generators for power outages and shutoffs

Utilities cut power ahead of high winds and fire weather, and storms do the rest. A towable generator keeps a house or a small business running for days. We deliver it; a licensed electrician connects it safely.

Book before the shutoff, not during it

Utilities warn customers one to two days before a planned shutoff. Units go fast in those hours. If you live in a high-fire-risk area, a rental reserved at the start of the season is the safe way.

It has to be connected safely

A generator never plugs into a wall outlet. A licensed electrician connects it through a transfer switch, or an interlock and an inlet, so the generator cannot feed the utility line. If your house has none, the electrician can install one; ask and we find one.

Running around the clock

An outage generator runs 24 hours a day. A 20 kW unit at a typical house load uses about 25 to 35 gallons a day. We plan the refills and quote the 24-hour rate up front.

Questions

What size do I need for a house?

Most houses run on 20 kW, including a well pump and a window AC. A large house with central air needs 36 kW. Send us a photo of your main panel and the list of what must run, and we tell you.

Can I just plug in an extension cord?

For a fridge or a few lamps, a cord from the generator's own outlets works. Anything wired into the house — a well pump, central air, the whole panel — needs an electrician and a transfer switch.

How long can I keep it?

As long as the outage lasts. Daily, weekly and 4-week rates; you pay the cheapest one that covers the days.
